The taste for Chinese porcelain in the West increased from the early 1600s onward, and Chinese designs remained popular even when neoclassical and other styles flourished. It is not surprising that many Chinese export porcelain shapes and patterns that were popular in Britain also found favor in America. Some high-end wares provide clues to their original markets through coats of arms and armorial crests associated with particular families. Others retain early histories of ownership or are known through documentary or archaeological evidence to have been popular in particular regions.
